Area of Low Pressure in the Central Portion of the US

A moderately powerful mid-latitude cyclone is developing over Utah, which is expected to push eastward over the next few days.

The associated cold front is expected to make it's way into the Tri-State and north and south-central Kentucky late this weekend into Monday. Although temperatures will not cool significantly upon the passage of the front, precipitation will certainly increase late tomorrow.

This is an estimated radar feed for Monday morning. As you can see, the center of the cyclone circulation is located over northeasternmost Kansas. You can also see that rain from the cold front is making its way through the Tri-State at this time. This same system could potentially dump over a foot of snow in the South Dakota area!

Fortunately, temperatures will remain unseasonably warm, allowing any precipitation that falls in the Tri-State to remain as rain. If it were colder, the area could certainly see a significant amount of snow.

Warmer than normal temepratures will persist into next week, and skies will clear as the cyclone continues on its east to northeasterly track.

Happy Saturday!

-Avery
