Above-Average Temperatures This Week--What to Expect

This winter's weather has brought waves of bone-chilling temperatures and brutal winter storms to most of the country--fortunately we will be receiving a much needed break this week. A large swath of the Central U.S will be experiencing warmer than average temperatures this week, including the Tri-State.

Before you start turning down the thermostat and taking down the window kits--it is still January, so "above-average" temperatures does not necessarily mean warm temperatures. Daytime highs are expected to climb into the upper-40's and low-50's, and nighttime lows have the potential to drop below freezing.

As far as precipitation is concerned, the low-pressure system that brought rain to the Tri-State today is trending north-northeast through the Great Lakes region. As this system subsides, our only possibility for rainfall this week is Saturday as the 12z GFS model run shows an influx of moisture from the Gulf.

The CPC predicts these above-average temperatures to persist through the next two weeks, but there is still a great deal of uncertainty with these models.

Enjoy this warming trend while it lasts!
