Snow Showers Move In This Evening. A Wintry Mess Likely Tuesday Night Into Wednesday Morning.
Snow showers will move through parts of the Tri-State this evening. Not expecting any major impacts to area roads. We will keep an eye on it for potential overachieving, especially to the north and east of Evansville.
The main concern remains for the Tuesday night & Wednesday morning time frame. A southern storm system will move into the region. Models still appear to be in pretty good agreement on a freezing rain event, which is still looking like it could possibly reach winter storm criteria across Southern Illinois, southwest Indiana and parts northwest Kentucky. Steady freezing rain is likely and will likely cause travel problems for the Wednesday morning commute. Freezing rain accumulations of up to 2 tenths of an inch of icing or more will be possible. This is still a developing weather situation and some uncertainty does exist on where the rain and freezing rain line will setup. At this time, all indications from the latest data still show the rain and freezing rain line near the Ohio river. Most of western Kentucky into south-central Kentucky will receive rain. Southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, portions of northwest Kentucky and north-central Kentucky will receive frozen precipitation. Stay tuned to Metro Weather Watch for the latest forecast updates on this potential event.
